Am I the only one getting super freaked out and afraid? I'm buying potassium iodide pills right now because looking at that fallout map has it ending just past New Mexico. I wish I had someone here with me right now, because just watching the news by myself, I'm getting more and more panicky. It's all for nothing though, right? :(

I'm about 50 miles from the beach in Southern California and I haven't heard anything about needing to worry. I dunno. What news have you been watching?

I wasn't too worried until Japanese officials started talking about the possibility of reactor 3 blowing up.

This is the most recent thing I've seen:

But I'm pretty much keeping watch on the live updates from BBC:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12307698

and here's the map that spooked me:

Not sure what the source is on that one though, but the energy experts that are being interviewed are saying that the ocean water is a last-ditch effort for keeping it contained. :| Once I wake up I'll probably be less paranoid, but right now I can't stop watching this stuff!!

D'oh, meant to click here to add the link about the map being a fake, but I missed.

Ack, I need to watch the news more often! MSNBC is saying that they reacted quickly enough on the 2nd reactor that it won't be bad... what's the potassium iodide for?

It blocks one of the kinds of radiation, the one that gives you thyroid cancer. I guess the iodide fills up your thyroid before the bad iodine can, so you can take it before you're exposed to prevent at least one thing. The others...guess you're SOL, though. Here's a more thorough explanation:

Actually I wouldn't recommend the news, I was better off on Friday when I was just feeling bad about the homelessness and destruction. Just checked BBC and yeah...don't like that headline. Gah!

It would be a good excuse to come visit and you're practically on the opposite side of the earth. And the cats can come? I'm so there!! :D I'll even bring the rain ponchos and iodide tablets. ;)
