Feb. 23rd, 2010 05:57 pmSnow delay today! Woo! Granted, it's already mostly melted, but it snowed pretty damn good throughout the night.
Well, it's been almost 2 months since I started the no-shampoo thing. The first thing of note is that my skin problems vanished almost immediately upon giving it up. I've always had exema(?) especially in the winter and when I started the whole back of my left leg looked like I had the shingles or something, but after a few days that was gone and normally my cheeks would be rough and my hands bleeding, but aside from a little dryness on my hands and elbows, I'm just fine. My hair on the other hand, didn't fare so well and was dry and prone to flyaways and not quite greasy, but like I didn't wash the conditioner out? Even if I didn't use any. Apparently, it just naturally craves chemicals at this point. Even the occasional conditioning wasn't much help. But someone on one of my hair dyeing communities posted about Samy Pure shampoo with no sulfates and after searching all through town, I had to wait for it to come from drugstore.com which it did! Got the smooth/shine shampoo and volumizing conditioner and my hair is back to niceness! Very soft and just the right amount of body.
I had been looking at other shampoos and saw sulfocoate...somethings, and thought that would be the same thing, but that's an ingredient in the Samy so it must be some non-bad form of them. So I might be able to find a viable alternative when this stuff runs out.
I've gone on a bit of a Sailor Moon buying spree. I'm still upset that I quit collecting right before they released all the SM World and PGSM merchandise so I missed out on a lot of cute dolls and Saturn stuff. Grrr! Bad Amanda! I also really need to regroup the stuff I already have and figure out what I'm missing now that I actually have money to fill in the gaps. Won some of the FFVI keychains I was missing too! Only to discover they made little SD plastic figures that I had no idea about and must now track down. *sigh*
I finally watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I'm actually glad I didn't see it in the theater. I thought it was pretty terrible. Of course, even in the books, I wasn't much for all the dating shenanigans, but even without that stuff everything seemed terribly disjointed and glossed over and done with no real purpose. Maybe splitting the next one into two parts will help, but I'm thinking it's more of just this director being the suck. Good thing I'm not really invested in the first place. I wanted to see Percy Jackson, but not sure if that's worth it, either. And Shutter Island and Wolfman are getting crap reviews, so no new movies for awhile, I guess.
Thanks to Be Good Johnny Weir, I've been keeping up with the Olympic figure skating. That boy was sorely underscored, though. Stupid Russians. Ice dancing unfortunately wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be and I have no clue on any of the girls, but maybe I can pick a favorite. I wish stupid NBC would air everybody's skates though and not just 5 or 6 countries in between all the god damn snowboarding (which shouldn't be a sport) and skiing which all looks exactly alike.
My Customhouse dolls from September are finally in the US, so just waiting for the GO leader to get them and mail them out. The Leeke wig grab bag didn't turn out so well, though, so now I'm in search of new wigs for them. I finally gave up on the purple, but green seems to be an even more unpopular wig color. They need clothes, too...argh.

Date: 2010-02-24 10:10 am (UTC)What is this no shampoo mission?
I can't even begin to peek at the Sailormoon stuff because I know I'd want way more than I should. So, pictures!
If I hadn't promised to take munchkin and mums to see How to Train Your Dragon, I'd ignore the iffy reviews and see Percy Jackson. But then again, I haven't read the books yet either so...

Date: 2010-02-25 05:26 pm (UTC)Apparently the sulfates that they put in shampoo, I guess to help it lather? are really bad for you. I'm not sure on the level of cancer-causing bad, but like I said, I did notice a really big difference in my skin clearing up and even the random zits have gone down tremendously since not using any soap products on my face. So there were some people trying to go just no-shampoo since it's rare that you would get that dirty anyways that water won't just wash you off.
I was hesitant too for just this reason, but I can resist no longer. I really want all the World dolls with their casual outfits, but they're going to be a paaain in the butt to get. I'm fixing to order some gashapon sets so when those come in, I'll take some pics. :D
Yeah, our Children's lib is all into those books, but I haven't read them, either. And I hate Uma Thurman, too. >_>

Date: 2010-02-26 04:01 pm (UTC)Damn you. I just peeked at the Sailormoon ebay category today and immediately had to throw my wallet out of the room for safe keeping. So many shiny cute things! Every few days I'm going to poke you with a "pictures? piiiiiiiiictures?" request. Muhahaha!
The chosen one is almost always completely useless. It's some weird relatability thing. Or maybe that's just how I justify disliking an awful lot of heroines and the odd hero in books/movies/shows? Draco's thing was handled... weirdly.
As to shampoo, I knew that in general it's bad for your hair (good to know it's bad for the rest of you too) which is why I no longer lather all the way up, just my scalp, but hmm. Might have to look into the newer, less harsh options. Sadly if my hair gets wet but not washed, it becomes an oil pit unless the ocean is involved.

Date: 2010-02-27 02:44 am (UTC)Hm, I hadn't thought about that being the reason I hate most main characters. Good point. I was asking my coworker about stuff, but she got mad at me cause I said I hated HP for the dumb names he gave his children at the end.
I guess I was behind on the times, cause I never knew! I definately recommend the Samy Pure. I know our Walgreens has the brand, but just didn't have the Pure ones, but I think they might be pretty new still? Yeah, mine became clumps of gross, too. >_>
