Seriously, you need to stop watching the news and freaking out. If some horrible random disaster brought about our end you'd do better to at least enjoy the time you got left than worry about some future event you have no control over.
I would, but getting cancer in 20 years or having deformed kids down the line or just radiation sickness/poisoning now is really Bad Things(tm). That MOX shit that just blew up is worse than TMI and Cherynobl, too. I guess I've done about all I can. Have my iodine pills and rain ponchos. Hopefully being around other people at work tomorrow will help. When it's just me here, I'm compelled to just read all this stuff and get worked up.
Most corporate news channels (corporate meaning for profit which BBC can fall under) want you to be scared because then they control you and you'll feel compelled to keep watching and trusting them, only them.
But really... the power plant in Japan is not like the one in Chernobyl. Japan's is built concrete bunker style (Think buried in a solid concrete box. So any "blast" will be very contained and if radiation does leak out... its not going to make it all the way across the Pacific Ocean. It's a very large ocean! Also, this is a country that knows the effects of radiation first hand on people. Feel sad that they might have their younger generations learning what the first hand effects are again but do not stress yourself out one little bit that it'll reach you.
