Well, that's a kick in the teeth. I actually take a photo that I really like and bam! Knocked out of the competition. Suck. I really thought I was doing well this time. Which is just more fuel for my philosophy to never believe in myself or think that anything good will ever happen to me. Positive-thinking as a technique for me is apparently a crock. So nuts to that.

I think you had the same problem I did: the other judges didn't get your picture. Which seems hard to believe, because it was plenty straightforward to me. (I liked it by far the best and voted it first place.) But these are the same people who didn't get my Psycho tribute and that's, like, one of the most well-known movies of all time. I think we can chalk it up to them being...kinda ignorant and not us being unskilled.

Thanks! I did get yours right away too(i'm guessing the judges are way younger or something?) and thought the cinematography was excellent. And the theme was horror movies which yours was actually from when a lot of those other ones were just weird ass random body parts thrown around.

And for this round too, I doublechecked with a few people to make sure it came across well, but there's a few entries that I'm still puzzled over what was going on. Oh well, I actually don't feel *too* bitter about, more confused than anything. Though if you voted for me first and I still got kicked out, does that mean everyone else voted for me last? Huh. I'm not even sure how many judges there were in this thing.

Thanks for liking my picture. It means a lot to me since I know you're honest about your feelings and so I respect your opinion a lot. :)

Stupid livejournal, thanks for not telling me I wasn't logged in...

I'm thinking they're either younger or possibly not American. I'm not sure how many there are either. At least three, since there were comments by two other judges in the post.

I only just now got the one with the boys. Didn't get it when I voted. And I just saw the comment with the Blythe owner saying you two did the same thing, but I didn't understand hers at all when I voted, while yours was easy to get.

Eh, whatever. Now we have more time to devote to taking pics we want instead of for a contest. ;)

*edited some stuff but you'll see it in the email*

Unfortunately that's the main reason I enter contests is because it forces me to actually do photoshoots, because left on my own I'm too lazybutt to do it. And I really push myself with the elaborate setups if I have a set criteria I have to meet.

I was thinking I need to stop neglecting my BJDs in the pic department though...

*nod nod* Agreed with the stuff you said pre-editing.

My laziness and my schedule are the reasons I set up the Week in Review portion of VVD. It gives me a set time when I can do photos so I don't feel pressured to do them immediately, but still pressured enough to do something each week.

That's a good idea. If I just schedule a photoshoot every weekend, I'd get through all the poor Pullips that have never seen the light of day, too. I'll have to try and get creative on my own though instead of just taking them outside and propping them against whatever is convienent, hehe.

At least you have a big audience that's always eagerly awaiting your pictures. I would think that helps motivate you too. ;)

Oh! I meant to ask, did you want any of those Halloween Peekaboo petites? No more kitties, but I have extra of the witch, the bride/princess(?) and the...slutty witch? No charge, I can just send them as early christmas presents if you want. ;)

Oh slutty witch is probably a vampire huh. Oops.

Ooo, really? I'd love the blonde one in the red/black outfit. I think she's a vampire? This is her:

Thank you so much! I never did get out to look for any. I try to avoid Target as I've been so poor lately and though I've got (or rather, had) a bit of spare cash over the past couple days, I figured they'd be off the shelves already. Yay! I'm excited!

You don't want the other two as well? I'm going back tonight to buy what's left and then just offer on my LJ, but since I know you actively collect them, you get first dibs.

I never did see these ones at Target or Kmart, just Walmart. And while I liked them couldn't justify the 5.88 but at a buck forty-five, sold! I didn't expect them to go on clearance either, especially since Target didn't put the Halloween witch Barbie on clearance either, like they usually do. :?

Heh, well, since you put it that way, sure, I'll take all three. ;) Thanks!

The price tag is what keeps me from really getting into these, too. There are a ton I want, but not as many that I'd pay that much for. $3.99 or less, then I'd buy a lot more. I actually only have the one right now, plus the Egyptian girl on the way from a friend. So these will help my collection along a lot. I think I'm going to get Rissa Ruby when I go to TRU next though. She's really pretty.

Haha, it pains me not to buy awesomely cheap stuff so if I have a reason and can pass it on to others, all the better. Hopefully Karma will look kindly upon it, too. ;)

The weirdly-high price and there's just so many of them, I get overwhelmed trying to look at each one and distinguish it from the others. I want the Emerald one though just cause that's my birthstone. Still no sign of the international ones here. :( Just a few ice cream, wedding and gemstone ones. Oh and those birthday two-packs. There's those Bratz ones too that look almost identical. I think they were about the same cost though.

I'm pretty sure I still have your addy from the Neopets switch so I'll try and get those packed up this weekend. If by some grace the cat girl has reappeared add her too. ;)

Oh are you still after certain Neopets? They've gotten in a few new ones down here.

Date: 2008-11-14 12:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tanz-fanatika.livejournal.com
The Emerald one is lovely. I've had her in my hands a few times, though she hasn't made it to the checkout counter yet.

The main Neopets I'm currently after are the Series 4 pumpkin JubJub (probably long sold out...I never saw any of the Halloween trio in my stores) and the Series 5 Christmas Wocky. I'm interested in the blue Koi, too, but he's one I want to see in person. About half the time I think one is cute online, I don't like the actual toy. Like the Korbat or all the Elephantes. :)

It's always important to never get your hopes up, that way it's much harder to be disappointed. "The lesson here is, Never Try."

You did have a great photo though, we'll just have to make our own photo competition...with black jack...and hookers...in fact forget the photos.

lol I was trying to think of that simpsons quote. "No matter how good you are at something, there's always about a million other people out there better than you."

"Can't win, don't try. Got it."

Oh, good early Simpsons, is there anything you can't teach us?

Heh, I'm all for that. Shit, we still need to do our wacko lab experiment photostory too. Oh dude! The whole gang will be here for thanksgiving! Naomi wants to see you play SH5 too and maybe we can do a wacky adventure story as well.

Yeah I think the actual quote is, "You tried your best and you failed. The lesson is, Never Try."

Cool I'm definitely up for playing SH5 for you two.

Don't beat yourself up over other people not realizing whats good.

I did a photo for the taeyang competition, and I really think it was better then 1/2 and I was booted!! :(

Thanks! I still really like my photo and even the other contenstants are coming forward that they liked mine too, so that really makes me feel better about how much I've come along. I'm always surprised to move on at all in the PFab or TQ contests since the heavy-hitting semi-pros always enter those. These contests are such a mixed bag on the criteria and everything that anymore it's just easier to enter thinking of the practice instead of the chances of winning.

Yeah, it's always a wonder to what they are looking for, and this one seems pretty inconsistant.

I liked your photo for sure!

Thank you! Knowing other people liked my picture too, I don't even feel bad about it anymore. I'm glad I've improved enough to where other people enjoy my pics and I don't have to obsess over my work being all crappy and what I did wrong.

I wanna see these other pics that were supposedly so much better than yours.

I'm sure you getting booted was for reasons ranging from dumb judges to who the voters/judges are friends with.

there was at least one other time you posted a link to a competition where the ones that were "better" I thought were kinda lame and cliche.

so long story short....poo on them. :P

Wow, I didn't even realize so many non-doll people paid attention to these posts! That makes me feel even better about things.

pft.

I personally think two of them should be disqualified for the writing. it's a photo--if you can't get your point across visually then you're not doing your job.

and I don't even get the one with the upside-down-losing-pants guy.

the other chick did the same thing in theory as you did, but yours had ACTUAL FIRE FTW.

I would definitely chalk it up to dumb judges.

and while I wouldn't want any of the dolls in my house, cuz I think they're kinda creepy, I do like your photos of them and stuff. so I may skim a little through your posts about actually collecting them and stuff, but I pay attention sometimes. ;)

besides, I am the chick who married this guy, so I understand obsession a little.

Well, one of them did ask and the in charge person allowed it, though I do agree it kind of takes away from the "photo" aspect of it, if you have to use text to explain it.

I think it was Harry Potter? They have wands?

lol Well, that's cool that you do enjoy my pictures. I understand creepy dolls aren't everyone's cup of tea and take no offense to it. I've thought about starting a seperate doll journal, but I'm too lazy to switch back and forth so it all gets lumped together. :p

Hehe, yeah, we all have our "collections" of one thing or another, don't we.
