Cat Sorrows
Mar. 26th, 2010 10:37 amWell things had been going alright, but Remy, that orange and white kitten we took in only a few months ago is going downhill fast. He was my mom's baby and it's like the life has just been sucked out of him. It's looking like feline leukemia, but every vet in town apparently takes off during spring break so we can't even get him in to be evaluated and know for sure. And now we're worried the other cats in the house could be infected and dying sooner rather than later. My mom's been a wreck about it, not knowing what's wrong and now blaming herself for bringing him in, but I'm kind of miffed that the vets knowing he's an outdoor cat don't suggest testing for it, but we did get him the shot before bringing him in and when he was healthy, but I don't know if that's not enough. He had so much energy, but I guess still too young to fight it off. Don't know if he'll make it to next week to even get to the doctor's. We didn't know him for too long, but the other cats in the house are Mishka, Misty, the two grays from my litter and the princess fluffcat. I'm really hoping they'll be okay since we hadn't updated their shots since they're always indoors. Urgh.
Mom really loved Belle, the sister cat that came with my Mama Sasha, but she died fairly quickly too, when that IAMS contamination occured, so she blames herself for that one, too. Not sure what's going on with my mom and her special cats, but it really sucks that she's having to suffer like this.

Date: 2010-03-26 07:41 pm (UTC)I know! And most of them are hella old with grown kids so it's not like they need to stay home for a family vacation! You'd think they'd be smart enough to at least realize they could take the other guy's business by working the week tne rest don't. Like when Fluffernutter disappeared, I think it's really the not knowing that's the worst part of all of it.

Date: 2010-03-26 07:53 pm (UTC)I keep hoping my cats will be like a former boss's cat who is (was?) 21 and still showed no sign of not living forever. But then my cat pulls the fur off her tail and no longer jumps up onto counters without massive flailing and I fret. (My first cat did not last long. Just long enough to break my heart.) But I tell myself that atleast they live longer than hamsters. Usually.
