Well, I still haven't heard from George about us trying this again sans Robert this weekend, so I guess that's off. I thought maybe his net was down, but he should be at work today and still nothing, so I'll take that as a "no". But that leaves me wanting to spend money somewhere and that somewhere happens to be on my new doll. But Holy Christmas, nothing about these stupid bjds is cheap!! I can definately see the appeal of sticking to pullips who can at least where Barbie clothes and you can get those nice $10 fashion closets.

First, Tessa needs shoes. Yeah, I've got those yellow sneakers, but I'd like something more formal and versatile. Now, when I ordered her, I also ordered an outfit made by the same company since 1.) It was the cheapest by half of the others 2.) I wanted her to have an immediate outfit I knew would fit and 3.) it said that it came with "boots". Now silly me, I thought these would be the nice black boots in the picture. But apparently boots in Chinese means "leg warmers" so instead I got glorified sock covers. When I emailed DDE about this, they're just like "oh yeah, guess we should change that, huh". Um, yeah, guess so. I realize now I should have asked first, but still...grrr! And unfortunately, they have the best selection of shoes, and undersell Junkyspot by a few dollars, so looks like I'll still have to go back to them. Unless anybody else has recommended BJD US sellers? I've tried going through DOA but most of that stuff is the $50 kind, which...no.

THEN while I'm shopping for damn shoes, I realize I want her to be in a nice pretty dress I can leave her in, because I'm mad at the current outfit for the shoe thing, plus it just looks too young for her(it's a schoolgirl outfit). Once again, DOA peddles in the ungodly range of prices, but shopping around, I realize that that is apparently the standard. And now I want a fer. Featherfall has an exclusive gorgeous royal purple one and when I emailed them to make sure it was SD they said they only have one left in stock. ;_; Fers are these like nice form-fitted ruffly dresses that come with a fancy jacket, necklace, choker, fancy arm-warmer things and just looks overall beautiful. But Dollheart also has a couple other dresses that are lovely and don't seem as hard to get. But the price of those fers just goes up...gah. I don't need to be spending so much on a doll, but I want her to look the best she can!

And THEN since I love Tessa so much, I was looking at Angell-studio's other dolls, so I could have a new goal in site for next year and see that they've released a number of new dolls. It's kind of cool, cause it will be the same mold, but depending on the skin color, they do the makeup in a totally different style. So, I fell in love with this girl:

And up until today, her price had been $0 which I thought was because she hadn't been released yet, but then I read their news that that's because you had to buy them as a set.

http://angell-studio.com/en/product.php?action=196

And that guy does nothing for me, and I didn't want to spend the money to sell him off. But lo and behold as I went to get that link for you guys, I see that she now has a price. I was going to settle for getting one of the 1/6 or 1/4 dolls that are comparatively cheaper, but now...looks like I have a new goal. I wish they didn't do that to her nails though, they look all jaundiced and gross. But since I don't get body-blushing I'm hoping that's not standard. I dunno, what do you guys think of Ms. Sun-tanned Cinderella?

So that's where I'm at now. Spend money for just the shoes for Tessa, fancy dress and shoes for her, hang on to the money for another bjd down the line, or do the smart thing and just not buy any of it (hahahaha, crazy doll people, am I right? >_>) Gah, what's wrong with this hobby!! How does it make me lose all rational common sense and think that paying twice as much as my own for doll shoes is acceptable! And I purposely am leaving out the cost of those dresses. I ordered a pattern for clothes, but mom won't be able to get around to anything until late november after potter's guild.

Hey, actually I have a question. How many of you guys are sewers? How did you learn? Class, books, self-taught, friend/family member? Do you find you always have to use patterns or do you free-hand it? I've tried a few times to learn from mom, but I can never get over there consistently, so I want to just take my machine to my house so I can do it while I watch TV, but I tend to jack up the bobbins and get all freaked out. :/

Were we going to try again this next weekend? I missed the memo on that one. That's okay I'd rather just wait for Thanksgiving. I'll bring the 360 down and I'll be staying an extra day. Mostly I just don't want to ask for another day off after taking two this week, I'm still at home today. If you did just want to come over for the weekend Sat/Sunday that'd be fine. Either way I should have the Laser Pistol in SHH which should make it a lot easier. Then again I'm not having as much trouble the second time around although that's probably because I'm actually using my Serums and know which fights are best to run from.

Ah, duly noted on the no weekend gmail thing. Yeah, that's fine, I guess this thing was just a bust as a whole. Your post just got me looking forward to the game, but I'll wait it out. I guess just Sat/Sun is an option though....I'll have to think about it, since I wouldn't want to drive back at night, so I don't know how much time that would afford us. Are there multiple endings in this one too? At least the longer I wait, then you should have the joke ending at that point.

Got the joke ending today actually, which will let me play through the game even faster for the next three endings. You can do a sat/sun thing and just leave during the day monday. Even if I don't take the day off I can trust you to lock up after yourself if I'm already gone to work.

Eh, if you've got role-playing obligations though, that'll eat up quite a bit of time and I wouldn't want to ask for the time off this late in the week. We'll wait for Nov. I just need to find a safe place for the syringes til then...

Set up Tessa before saving for a new doll. You spent a bunch of money getting her, so she deserves some pampering. I'm generally content with having one really nice outfit for each of my dolls. So if you buy her one nice outfit and shoes, you can leave her in that and maybe get her other stuff down the line.

Nothing is the only BJD whose clothes I changed frequently. He has an $85 DoD coat that he never wears. He has he stock pants and some fishnet shirts and sweaters to go with them. But he's spent most of his "life" in these $20 PJs from Wicked Stitchery because he looks so cute in them.

The others have been much easier. Fable is a fullset, so I sold off the parts of her outfit I didn't want and bought her a new wig. Now she'll never need anything else. Heron is a partial fullset. I just had to get him some boots. Fell I bought nude (though I'd still love to own his fullset outfit someday), but I had an outfit for him before I even got Heron. I was flip-flopping between the two and bought a lovely handmade outfit on eBay while I was doing so. So he had clothes when he arrived and I just had to buy boots. Senyaka was a fullset sans shoes. She's still barefoot because I'm extremely picky about her footwear. But it's kind of become her thing. And Reign was a fullset. There's a definite advantage to shelling out more for a fullset if you like the outfit. Then you don't have to go clothes hunting.

But yeah, I recommend spending the money on one outfit for her that you're really happy with.

I love Senyaka. I think my problem is that I'm so choosey about the sculpts and there's very few of them that actually appeal to me. Actually that's probably a good thing cause it keeps me from buying a lot of them. I could have gotten the outfit that's in her photos, but I don't really like red, though I love the volume on it. But thanks to your advice, I went ahead and bought the purple fer. I looked around for something else for her, but practically every outfit is black, white or both with just pink or red thrown in every now and then, or that historic looking stuff. I wanted some sort of jewel tones for her, but since this was their last fer, I decided to just take the chance to not regret it later. And grab bags! I'm hoping to get a good pair of shoes for her in there...even though I'm sure it will just end in disappointment.

Are yours SDs or MSDs?

I'm pretty choosy, too, which is why I have so few. (Well, I have more than a few, but compared to the hardcore collectors, I have a few. Heh.) I need something that really blows me away. DoD used to do that, though I'm not into their newer dolls.

Nothing and Reign are MSD size. The other four are SD.

So I'm still not clear on what a fer is. Are there pics I could see?

Oh sure thing. I have no earthly idea what fer refers to and no one else seems to either. It's this one:
http://www.featherfall.ca/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=211_219&products_id=1001&zenid=v052uda34bve6iei703ob9h3q5

I guess they randomly release limited amounts in different colors and some are available everywhere, but certain colors are exclusive to particular distributers...I dunno. For some reason a lot of people on DoA seem to go ape for these, so I'm hoping that means really good quality or something. But it was also the only purple dress I came across, though admittedly I just looked for what was readily available in the US.

I really liked these ones, but not the colors unfortunately:
